Derek is the Communications & Grants Coordinator at Slingshot, where he is responsible for managing and crafting Slingshot's communications and mobilizing the resources needed for Slingshot to continue its crucial work organizing alongside frontline communities. Prior to beginning this role, Derek worked as a Grants Associate with The Public Interest Network (TPIN), supporting TPIN organizations including CALPIRG, Environment California, and the Student PIRGs in their grantseeking and fundraising efforts. Derek also served on the Organizing Committee and Bargaining Committee for The Public Interest Union, helping win union recognition and bargain a first contract to secure better working conditions and pay for TPIN staff. Derek graduated from the University of California, Irvine with a degree in political science.
